Kayla & Bradyn’s Heartfelt Sandpiper Resort Wedding
Kayla and Bradyn’s heartfelt Sandpiper Resort wedding, surrounded by the Harrison River, mountains and the natural beauty of the Fraser Valley.
There are some wedding venues where nature does most of the decorating for you.
Set along the Harrison River in Harrison Mills, Sandpiper Resort is surrounded by mountains, forest and acres of green space, removed from everything without asking guests to travel far outside the Fraser Valley.
For Kayla and Bradyn, all that space created the backdrop for a wedding that felt romantic without being overly formal.
There were private vows and emotional moments. There was plenty of laughter. And through it all, the landscape was never far away.
A Fraser Valley Wedding Venue Surrounded by Nature
Sandpiper Resort offers several very different settings within the same property.
There’s Rowena’s Inn, a restored English-style manor surrounded by gardens and mature trees. Couples can also celebrate outdoors beneath the forest canopy or closer to the Harrison River, with reception spaces.
For a Fraser Valley wedding venue, this gives couples plenty of flexibility without losing the sense of privacy that makes the property so special.
The landscape also changes depending on where you are.
One moment you’re looking across the water toward the mountains. The next you’re walking through a garden filled with flowers or standing beneath trees that seem to go on forever.
That variety gave us so much to work with throughout Kayla and Bradyn’s Sandpiper Resort wedding.
A Softer Approach to the Film
Some of my favourite shots from this day aren’t perfectly sharp or composed.
They’re soft. There’s sunlight spilling into the lens. Movement blurs the edges of the frame as Kayla and Bradyn make their way through the property.
Normally, those might sound like imperfections, but here, they were ethereal.
There was already something quiet and almost dreamlike about the surroundings, and I wanted parts of the film to carry that same feeling.
There were so many moments where it made more sense to follow the movement and see where it took us, and that freedom is one of my favourite parts of documentary-style wedding videography.
The surroundings can influence how I film without ever becoming more important than the people in front of the camera.
The Moments Between Everything Else
Of course, scenery can only take a wedding film so far.
What really stood out to me throughout the day was the way Kayla and Bradyn were with each other.
Their private vows gave them time together away from the larger celebration, while the ceremony brought everyone back together against the surrounding landscape.
And then there were the moments that couldn’t have been planned.
A look. A laugh. The way Bradyn adored Kayla during the ceremony.
Those are often the moments I’m watching for as a Vancouver wedding videographer because they tell you something that a perfectly arranged shot can’t.
Room to Step Away
One of the advantages of celebrating somewhere this spacious is having room to get away from the crowd.
Sandpiper has open lawns and gardens alongside quieter pockets around the property. That allows couples to spend a little time together without feeling like they’ve completely left their wedding behind.
For Kayla and Bradyn, some of those quieter moments became some of the most intimate footage of the day.
They also give the finished film room to change pace.
The larger landscapes establish where we are. The ceremony brings everyone together. Then the camera can move closer and focus on something as simple as two people laughing together.
Filming a Sandpiper Resort Wedding
Seeing the property from above really puts its scale into perspective.
Rowena’s Inn sits among huge stretches of lawn, gardens and forest, with the mountains rising beyond the property.
For a Vancouver wedding videographer, having that much visual variety in one location means I can spend less time trying to create interesting backdrops and more time paying attention to what is actually happening.
The river, gardens and surrounding landscape already give every part of the day its own character.
My job is to decide when to show all of it and when to move closer.
